Latens features animistic sculptures built from the apparatuses of image-making, pointing to the industrial systems and material economies that underwrite photography. Found photographic materials, such as plastic, are composed in ways that echo historical precedents, from Lilly Reich’s early 20th century installations of industrial matter to the flowing drapery of Renaissance painting. What Aby Warburg described as an “imaginary breeze” becomes a figure for the unseen economic, political, and cultural forces that move photographic technologies and circulate the images they produce today.
